About the Panelists:

Shawn Newell

Shawn is the Vice President of Business Development at Industrial Supply Company where he has worked for the past 35 years. He serves as a community integrator working as the vice president of the Salt Lake Branch of the NAACP, a former Commissioner on the Governor’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Commission and is on the executive Board of the Utah Black Round Table. He heads the Utah Multicultural Civic Council, serves on the Board of the Utah Non-Profit Association and is a member of the Utah Manufacturer’s Association Board. Mr. Newell formerly served as Chair of the Workforce and Economic Development Advisory Board at Salt Lake Community College where he served as the Alumni Council President and a Trustee for the College. Shawn is a Civility Ambassador for World Civility through iChange Nations. Additionally, he serves on the Utah 3rd district Court Committee for Self-Represented Parties, Council on Diversity Affairs (CODA), as a former member of the Utah State Board of Education, a President’s Ambassador for the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, Utah State Department of Workforce Services Board, Utah State Bar Commission Board and currently on the Board of Utah System of Higher Education.

Shawn is a graduate of the University of Utah, Salt Lake Community College and has a Masters of Management degree from the University of Phoenix. He holds an Executive leadership certification from the University of Utah School of Business and a Diversity and Inclusion certificate from Cornell University and a Leading with Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Certificate from the University of Utah..

In Shawn’s spare time he officiates youth sports and BBQs great grub. Mr. Newell is married, the father of three and has five grandchildren.

Sara Jones

Sara Jones, CEO InclusionPro:

Sara Jones has advocated throughout her career for the benefits of greater diversity in our companies, boardrooms, and circles of power. As CEO of InclusionPro®, Sara builds transformative strategies for diversity, inclusion and equity. InclusionPro’s clients include companies in technology, engineering, health care, manufacturing, financial services, legal services, e-commerce, distribution and non-profit organizations. Sara was adopted from South Korea in 1977 at age three and miraculously found her birth family after 42 years of separation. TED featured her powerful story on go.ted.com/sarajones.

Sara is the co-founder of Women Tech Council (WTC), established in 2007, a national organization focused on the economic impact of women in driving high growth for the technology sector. She also serves on the Utah State Workforce Development Board, Board of Trustees for Intermountain Healthcare Salt Lake Valley Hospitals and the Executive Board of Silicon Slopes.

Sara began her career as a patent attorney at law firm Workman Nydegger and became a partner. She then took on leadership roles as Head of Business Development at School Improvement Network, an educational technology company, VP of Strategic Development at Patent Law Works, a Silicon Valley law firm, and CEO of ApplicantPro, an HR technology company. Sara was honored as a University of Utah Distinguished Alum (2021), Utah Business Magazine’s CEO of the Year (2019), received a Distinguished Alumna award from the University of Utah College of Engineering (2017), and was a Utah Innovation Awardee. She and her husband reside in Salt Lake City, Utah, with their two kids and two dogs.

Todd R. Bingham

Todd R. Bingham serves as the President and CEO of the 116 year old Utah Manufacturers Association. Prior to UMA, he was the President of the Utah Mining Association.

He has been involved in the association business for more than 26 years and as a registered lobbyist representing business and industry in the areas of public policy and governmental affairs. Todd has served on several boards including: The Utah Labor Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Employer Advisory Board, The Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, the Utah Economic Development Task Force, Governor’s Economic Council, Governors Rural Partnership Board, the Workers Compensation Advisory Board, the Air Quality Policy Advisory Board (Chairman), the Great Salt Lake Advisory Council, West Jordan Planning Commission, Transportation Infrastructure Advisory Board, Chairman – Inland Port Authority Economic Development Board, Critical Infrastructure and Supply Chain Working Group, Council of State Manufacturing Associations Chairman, National Association of Manufacturers Board Member and the Utah Unemployment Advisory Council.

He has extensive association background, experience and leadership, continued and ongoing credibility with business/industry, and broad public policy experience as well other unique qualifications which allow him to continue advancing the manufacturing industry in the state of Utah.

He has a longstanding career in association management and administration, governmental affairs and public relations, lobbying, public policy and marketing in the business/industry community. He is committed to the value of Utah’s business and industry associations and their essential and vital nature in protecting and improving the economic climate and environment in the state.
